May 16, 2018    Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs located at the western edge of Clare County.  They run for about 14 kilometers.  At their peak, they rise 702 feet from the Atlantic Ocean.  They are quite impressive and only recently, has the park put in place substantial barriers for safety.  It was a fun day, but Rod and I suffered from parental anxiety with the instinctual urge to protect the children from plunging to their deaths!  Not all vacation is relaxing!

Enjoy the view!

The next few pictures are taken with the portrait setting on my phone.

I must have inadvertently taken the portrait setting off.

Have you ever seen a sign like this?  Both humorous and frightening!

O'Brian's Tower.  We get over there a little later.

Down below O'Brian's Tower

The cliffs are 14 km long, so not all of it is managed by the park.  (meaning:  the fence disappears at some point)

See the fence?  See the people in front of the fence?

An outcropping in front of O'Brian's Tower.

See the crazy lady in front of the barrier?

We are next to O'Brian's Tower enjoying the view.  You can see for miles.

Looking back at the area where we started.

One slip, and boom!, down you go.

To the north of O'Brian's Tower where the cliffs are lower.

On the north side of O'Brian's Tower looking back.

Eating lunch next to the parking lot, watching the cows.

After surviving the cliffs, we drove south to a beach recommended by a local.  The water was numbing and only Clare and Aaron spent time in it.  The others put one toe in and said, forget it!

Clare and Aaron.  Make note how far out the water is.

Clare and Aaron still in the water.  The beach was clean and sandy.  There were lots of surfers in wet suits.  They were fun to watch.

Grace.  See how the water is reaching the rocks now?

Tide coming in!  https://youtu.be/1_VY55fgGHM

We were sitting on these rocks for 20-30 minutes watching the waves and surfers.

All of a sudden, we realized the tide was coming in and coming in fast!

We were having to climb higher and further back on the rocks to avoid getting wet.  Walking on the sand back to the stairs where we came in was not an option.  We climbed over the rocks to get back to the stairs.  It was fun!
