May 14, 2018  Monday,       Dysert O'Dea Archaeology Trail

This outing looked good on the website, but sadly, was a little disappointing in person.  It claimed "25 different field monuments" to view, but we could only see three.  The rest could have been grown over with plants?  It turned into a pleasant walk on a beautiful day and some small talk with a local man.  What more do you need?

We missed this re-enactment by a day.  :(

O'Dea Castle 1480 A.D.

Cemetery for the Dysert O'Dea Monastery.  It's still in use.

Detailed arch.

The monastery.

The monastery.

The monastery.

A grave inside the monastery.

Built in steps to get you over the wall and onto the next monument.

Looking at the castle from the monastery.

Looking back at the monastery.

The High Cross.  12th century.

View of the area.

Another view of O'Dea Castle.

O'Dea Castle

We saw this on the walk.  Not historical, but maybe an old house.

To the left, are some rocks.  The kids went down to see if it was a ruin.  It was a pile of rocks.

This monument is supposed to be in the next picture.

Do you see a monument?  Neither did we!

Enjoying the walk.

A beautiful mare.  There is a foal in the grass behind her.
