March 17th, 2018   St. Patrick's Day!  and the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere

Happy St. Paddy's Day!  I asked an honest-to-goodness authentic Irish man I met at St. Patrick's Church how he celebrated St. Patrick's Day and he said he celebrated it with Mass in the morning, watched the finals of the rugby match between Ireland and England, (Ireland won!), and went to a seminary and heard a concert of Irish music.  Not a single mention of green beer or a Shamrock shake from McDonald's!  America, we might be celebrating wrong!

Collin, Grace, Simon and I went out souvenir shopping and stumbled on Santa Maria in Trastevere.  I have a few pictures, but not many.  We had a long walk along the river and listened to street musicians.  It was a nice, relaxing day.

One of the oldest churches in Rome.  The basic floor plan and wall structure date back to the 340s and much of the structure dates to 1140-43.

The sanctuary of Santa Maria in Trastevere.

A little closer up.  These are 12th-13th century mosaics.
